Matt, your Hawaii example rings so true with the self-absorption being promoted. The focus seems to be on what can entertain me now or next? If it's not entertaining or "enlightening," it's boring and not worth the time. Praise God He didn't think we were too boring.

Levi, your honesty reminds me how so many different life-events reshape us. While unexpected, unwanted, and even unexplainable...these events - the trials - happen for our growth.

Another perfect example of how many of us, even myself should reconsider how we approach life on a day to day basis. Respect is non-existent from so many areas of life. I have to admit, before my son passed away I was nearly null and void of many of these respects, where I lived - how much I made - what I did for a living gave me a false sense of entitlement, a "free-pass" for lack of respect if you will. That has all changed and I thank God everyday for showing me how wrongly I was living. I look at life completely differently now and it saddens me to see the rest of our country ignoring these - even the most basic of respects. Thanks Rick for this post.

Amen! I think our lack of respect causes (or is caused by) our tendency to ignore everything around us except ourselves. I just heard that a poll was taken that found 10% of Americans don't know that Hawaii is part of America. Only pure self-absorbtion could make a person not know such basic facts about the world around them. There are dozens of examples. Grace and peace.
